The correct way to clean and maintain acrylic is important to keep it looking new, since it can be damaged by harsh solvents and cleaners.
Here is what we recommend;
General cleaning/polishing can be done using a non-abrasive lint free or microfiber cloth using a mild soap and water solution or a cleaner made specifically for acrylic such as “BRILLIANIZE”
We use this product exclusively for cleaning acrylic here at our facility.
NEVER use ammonia-based cleaners, acetone or other harsh chemicals.
Harsh chemicals will damage the acrylic over time causing cloudiness or crazing
(small stress cracks)
Paper towels should also be avoided as they are abrasive and can actually scratch the acrylic.
Removing Minor Scratches
Light superficial surface scratches that cannot be felt with your fingernail can be removed or greatly reduced by using a plastic polish such as NOVUS 2 or NOVUS 3
NOVUS 2 is for light scratches, NOVUS 3 for heavier scratches
Buff product onto the scratched acrylic surface with a soft cloth, then wiped clean.
Heavier scratches may require sanding or buffing.
We offer repair and restoration services for more heavily scratched items, but typically need to look at them to determine if it is viable and cost effective to restore.
Both the plastic cleaner/polish & scratch removers are available for purchase at our facility or can be purchased thru online sources as well.
